Dominica Girl Guides Association Makes Historic Debut at Miss Teen Dominica Pageant
by Semaj Bernard
Dominica’s most anticipated teen pageant is back, and this year marks an exciting first—the Dominica Girl Guides Association will be represented for the first time in the competition’s history.
Gabrielle Esprit, who is sponsored by Fresh Market and Best Price participation as the first-ever Dominica Girl Guides Association representative is a historic moment for the organization, which has long been committed to developing young women into confident leaders. Her involvement in the pageant is a testament to the values of service, empowerment, and resilience that the Girl Guides instill in their ladies.
While the absence of some schools is disappointing for many young women who look forward to representing their institutions, the inclusion of the Dominica Girl Guides Association highlights the adaptability and perseverance of Dominican youth culture. The pageant continues to be an important space for young women to showcase their talents, embrace their heritage, and build lifelong skills.
Organized by the Waitukubuli Dance Theatre Company, the Miss Teen Dominica Pageant is more than just a beauty competition. It serves as a platform for young Dominican women to express themselves, showcase their talents, and embrace their cultural heritage. The event also fosters confidence, communication skills, and artistic growth, making it a true celebration of youth empowerment.
Traditionally, Miss Teen Dominica has been heavily school-focused, with participants primarily representing secondary schools across the island. However, this was not always the case. In the competition’s early years, there was no specific emphasis on school representation—instead, it was an opportunity for young women from all backgrounds to shine. Over time, as more school representatives entered, the pageant naturally evolved into a competition dominated by secondary school contestants.
This year, with several schools opting not to participate, the Dominica Girl Guides Association was invited to enter a contestant, and the organization readily accepted. This marks an important milestone, reinforcing that Miss Teen Dominica remains an inclusive platform for celebrating youth leadership, community involvement, and cultural expression beyond the school system.
The Miss Teen Dominica 2025 Pageant is set for Sunday, February 23, 2025, at the Forecourt of the Windsor Park Sports Stadium, where four remarkable contestants will vie for the coveted crown: Hannah Joseph, Kerine Royer, Keanna Aaron, and Gabrielle Esprit.
